Dear Esteemed Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to invite you to the 2019 e-navigation Underway Asia-Pacific Conference (2019 ENUW AP Conference) on 2-3 September 2019 in Seoul, Korea.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of Korea(MOF); International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA); and Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) have been co-organizing this Conference as a forum for technical discourse on e-navigation in the Asia-Pacific region since 2017 to be in line with the policy directions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
A compelling need to improve navigation safety and reduce human errors prompted discussions over development and introduction of e-Navigation, which has driven the IMO to take a concrete step for the service to begin from 2020. In line with the organization’s digital move for maritime safety and security, the Conference will be focusing on prioritized e-Navigation issues in multiple sessions, including maritime autonomous surface ships (MASS), maritime digitalization and cyber security under the main theme of “e-Navigation: Implementing New Digital Maritime Services in Asia Pacific."
As a side event for the Conference, MOF, IMO and IALA will be co-organizing the Workshop on Capacity Building for e-Navigation on 4-6 September 2019 in Busan, to provide participants with an opportunity to share the current state of play in terms of relevant technological development and to discuss way forward.
I look very much forward to your participation in these important events.
Consolidated ENUW Website Launching Greeting
As the Secretary General of the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), I am delighted to launch the consolidated ENUW website portal for the series of e-Navigation Underway (ENUW) conferences, including e-Nav Underway international, e-Nav Underway North-America and e-Nav Underway Asia-Pacific.
IALA has established a tripartite of e-Nav Underway Conferences for the world to see. This includes the e-Nav Underway international which was created in 2012 in collaboration with the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA); the creation of ENUW North-America in 2012 in collaboration with United States Coast Guard (USCG) and; the creation of ENUW Asia-Pacific in 2017 in collaboration with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries(MOF) of the Republic of Korea. These series of e-Nav Underway have made and continue to make significant contributions to the development of e-Navigation.
Previously, the series of e-Nav Underway have been operating standalone website network databases in which data gathered requires cohesion and unity. The consolidated e-Nav Underway website has been designed and developed with a close focus on global digitization and harmonized e-Nav Underway platform through close cooperation among IALA, DMA, USCG and MOF since 2017.
By integrating the information of each conference and standardizing the website of each e-Nav Underway Conference, the newly opened website will provide users with convenient access to a wealth of information and knowledge on e-Navigation all in a consolidated place
In addition, the consolidated e-Nav Underway website is expected to help facilitate the implementation and further development of e-Navigation through the promotion of mutual coordination and cooperation between the tripartite of e-Nav Underway Conferences.
Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea for bringing together a consolidated e-Nav Underway website and their commitment to its operation and further developmpnt in the future.
